PlayBlog Today Show to Welcome Miracle Worker Modine Television and film star Matthew Modine, who is currently treading the Broadway boards as Helen Keller’s father in The Miracle Worker, will appear in the 10 AM ET hour of NBC’s “Today” show tomorrow, Feb. 19.


The Miracle Worker also stars Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin, Tony Award nominee Alison Pill and Tony Award winner Elizabeth Franz. The play is directed by Kate Whoriskey, and opens March 3 at Circle in the Square Theatre. The Miracle Worker, according to press notes, “tells the story of the young Helen Keller, who became blind and deaf after a childhood illness, and the extraordinary woman, Annie Sullivan, who taught her to communicate with the world.”
 
Modine's early film roles include Billy in Robert Altman’s “Streamers” and Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket.”  He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in the television miniseries “And the Band Played On,” and won a Golden Globe Award for his role in the film “Short Cuts.”
 
Modine's previous theatre credits include Arthur Miller’s Finishing the Picture at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and Miller’s Resurrection Blues at London’s Old Vic. He also starred as Atticus Finch in a new adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird at Connecticut’s Hartford Stage.
