Almond will celebrate the release of  "Memorial Day" with a five-piece band, a 12-person choir and special guests. Showtime is 9:30 PM.

The night will feature work from from "Memorial Day," as well as songs not found on the album, including a deeply personal tribute to Sarah Fox, the Juilliard student and former colleague of Almond's, who was murdered in 2004.

According to Almond, the album centers around three days that tie-in to the central theme of "Memorial Day." "Part One, or day one, is a memory of old love and the day you have to say goodbye for whatever reason. It has a religious tone. Religion, for me personally, resides in literature... Depending on what I’m reading, I can get a little churchy. I was reading some pretty religious stuff when I wrote a lot of these songs, and I was alone in a cabin in the middle of Wyoming in the dead of winter," he said. "The only company I had was the occasional passing animal, a piano, and this stack of novels with deeply religious themes, so Part One is me getting churchy. In a fun way. Part Two is about my wedding day. What a glorious thing to be married! I think a wedding day should be called 'day one' because being married is, as Sarah Ruhl says, 'A little box of days.' And then Part Three, 'Athena,' is a little prayer to wrap everything up."

Almond has penned A Separate Piece, Melancholy Play, On the Levee, Girlfriend, People Like Us, Kansas City Choir Boy, Ahraihsak and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, which premiered at Yale Rep. He has appeared at 54 Below with Sherie Rene Scott in their collaboration Piece of Meat. This summer, Almond will return to the Delacorte Theater to compose The Winter's Tale, a collaboration with Lear deBessonet, with whom he created last summer's Public Works production of The Tempest. His solo debut album "Mexico City" is currently available.
