Will Keen and Francis O’Connor take on the title roles with Lindsay Posner directing.
Tom and Viv received its world premiere at the Royal Court in February 1984 directed by Max Stafford-Clark. The production transferred to Joe Papp's Public Theater in New York in January 1985.
In 1994 Brian Gilbert directed Michael Hastings and Adrian Hodges’ screenplay of “Tom and Viv” with a cast that include Willem Dafoe and Miranda Richardson.
Last year the prolific Posner directed Almeida productions of Moliere’s The Hypochondriac and Mamet’s Romance. His revival of Shepard’s Fool For Love, starring Juliet Lewis in her theatrical debut, is currently running at the West End’s Apollo Theatre.
Hastings’ work includes The World’s Baby, Lee Harvey Oswald and Unfinished Business. Posner’s other directing credits include Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre, Sexual Perversity in Chicago (starring Matthew Perry) and Tartuffe at the National Theatre. He is also reviving Fiddler on the Roof later this year in a production at the Crucible, Sheffield starring Henry Goodman. Keen was last seen at the Almeida in 2003-04 in Joanna Laurens’ Five Gold Rings. Other credits include The Changeling, Pericles and Stoppard’s Coast of Utopia at the National. O’Connor last appeared on the London stage in Anthony Page’s 2001-02 production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Hollywood’s Brendan Fraser. Her New York credits include Much Ado About Nothing, The Lady from the Sea and Lady Windemere’s Fan, all for the Manhattan Theatre Club.
Joining Keen and O’Connor in the cast are Anna Carteret (in the role of Rose), Laura Elphinstone (Louise), Robert Portal (Maurice) and Benjamin Whitrow (Charles). Design is by Giles Cradle.
