News Tom Jones to Depart The Fantasticks Off-Broadway June 6 Tom Jones, the award-winning creator of Off-Broadway's long-running musical The Fantasticks, plays his final performance as Henry June 6 at the Snapple Theater Center.

Jones, who frequently performed the role of Henry (The Old Actor) under the stage name Thomas Bruce, stepped into the revival April 26 in anticipation of the musical's 50th anniversary celebration on May 3. Understudy Tom Flagg will step into the role June 7 through July 3. MacIntyre Dixon, who was previously playing Henry Off-Broadway, returns to the role on July 5.

The current cast includes Edward Watts, Erik Altemus, Tom Flagg, Gene Jones, Matt Leisy, Michael Nostrand, Evy Ortiz, Steve Routman, Kimberly Whalen and Scott Willis.

The Fantasticks has choreography by Janet Watson with musical direction by Robert Felstein.

The Fantasticks resumed performances Off-Broadway at the Snapple Theater Center's Jerry Orbach Theater June 16, 2008. The musical began a winter hiatus Feb. 24, 2008, following 27 previews and 628 regular performances at the Orbach Theater. The musical originally opened at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in May 1960 and closed Jan. 13, 2002.

Harvey Schmidt wrote the music and Jones penned the book and lyrics. Word Baker directed the original Off-Broadway company.
