PlayBlog Tony Award Nominee John Benjamin Hickey Performs a Scene From The Normal Heart (Video) The Normal Heart's John Benjamin Hickey offers a glimpse of his Tony Award-nominated performance by performing a scene from Larry Kramer's play—also nominated for a 2011 Tony Award—that officially opened on Broadway April 27 at the Golden Theatre.

The Normal Heart is described as "the story of a city in denial." The Normal Heart "unfolds like a real-life political thriller—as a tight-knit group of friends refuses to let doctors, politicians and the press bury the truth of an unspoken epidemic behind a wall of silence. A quarter-century after it was written, this outrageous, unflinching, and totally unforgettable look at the sexual politics of New York during the AIDS crisis remains one of the theatre's most powerful evenings ever."

Other members of the cast include Ellen Barkin, Patrick Breen, Mark Harelik, Joe Mantello, Luke Macfarlane, Lee Pace, Jim Parsons, Richard Topol and Wayne Alan Wilcox.

Hickey plays Felix Turner, who dates Ned Weeks (Mantello). In this scene, Hickey's character explains how he knows Ned while on their first date.
