Taymor, who is directing A Midsummer Night's Dream at Theatre for a New Audience, said in an interview with the New York Times that one of her current projects is the TV series "Fanny," the Erica Jong retelling of "Fanny Hill" that Taymor described as an "18th-century Hogarthian intellectual sex romp."
Taymor also told the New York daily that she has been trying to raise money for a movie musical adaptation of Thomas Mann’s novel "Transposed Heads," on which she would collaborate with Elliot Goldenthal.
The recipient of the 1991 MacArthur Genius Fellowship, Taymor made her Broadway debut with Juan Darién: A Carnival Mass, which earned five Tony nominations. Her theatre credits also include The Green Bird, Titus Andronicus, The Tempest, The Taming of the Shrew, The Transposed Heads and Liberty's Taken. In 1997 Taymor directed the stage adaptation of Disney's animated film "The Lion King" and won Tony Award for Best Costumes and Best Direction of a Musical.
Taymor also helmed the highly publicized production of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.
A Midsummer Night's Dream begins previews Oct. 19, prior to an official opening Nov. 2. Performances continue through Jan. 12, 2014.
