PlayBlog Tony Award Winner Robert Lopez Sings "I Believe" From The Book of Mormon (Video) Robert Lopez, who won Tony Awards for Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon, recently sat down with WNYC's "Soundcheck" to talk about his current Tony Award-winning musical and his career in songwriting. Lopez also offered a performance of "I Believe," the first act finale to Broadway's Book of Mormon.

Mormon, by Emmy Award-winning “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q Tony Award winner Lopez, plays the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and stars Andrew Rannells (Jersey Boys) and Josh Gad ("The Daily Show with Jon Stewart"). The musical follows the two Mormons as they venture from Salt Lake City to AIDS-ravaged Uganda in the hopes of converting villagers with the story of Joseph Smith and the founding of the Mormon Church. The problem is only one of them has actually read the book.

"Soundcheck," hosted by John Schaefer, is WNYC’s daily talk show about music. Covering all musical genres, "Soundcheck" celebrates the musical passions of performers, composers, and critics as well as the public radio audience. Listeners enjoy intimate conversations with and live performances by leading artists from around New York and around the globe.
