Directors Guild of America president Taylor Hackford announced the DGA's nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television and Commercials Jan. 9. The winners will be named at the 65th Annual DGA Awards Dinner, hosted by Kelsey Grammer, Feb. 2 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.

Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2012 were announced Jan. 8. Oscar winner Tom Hooper is among the directors nominated.

"Television is in the midst of one of the most creative and fruitful periods in its history, and television directors are a critical element of that success," said Hackford in a statement. "The 40 nominated directors in eight television categories represent the highest caliber of directing seen on television this year, with a diverse range of projects highlighting their creativity and skill in eliciting performance, advancing the story and establishing the look and feel in all genres of television. I congratulate them for their excellent work."

Also nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
 Musical Variety are Michael Dempsey for "12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief," Don Roy King for "Saturday Night Live With Host Mick Jagger," Don Mischer for the 84th Annual Academy Awards and Chuck O'Neil for "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart."

Other notable nominees include Greg Mottola for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
 Dramatic Series for the episode of "The Newsroom" entitled "We Just Decided To"; Louis C.K. for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in 
Comedy Series for the "Louie" episode "New Year's Eve"; Bryan Cranston for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
 Comedy Series for the "Modern Family" episode "Election Day"; and Lena Dunham for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
