The 67th Annual Tony Awards, which aired June 9 on CBS, drew 7.24 million viewers, according to preliminary numbers released by TVbytheumbersZap2It.com.

The annual celebration of the Broadway theatre garnered a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating; that rating is an increase of 20 percent (from a 1.0) from last year.

The 2012 Tony Awards were viewed by approximately 6.01 million theatre fans.

ABC, which aired "Jimmy Kimmel Live-Game Night," "NBA Countdown-Live" and "NBA Finals Game 2," won the night among adults 18-49 and with total viewers (9.962 million).

"Due to the nature of live programming the ratings for ABC (NBA Finals) and CBS (The Tony Awards) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers," according to TVbythenumbers.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the annual Tony ceremony, which was broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall.
