It was decided that Sarah Jones' one-woman show Bridge & Tunnel, which is currently playing the Helen Hayes Theatre after an acclaimed Off-Broadway run, will be eligible in the Special Theatrical Event category rather than the Best Play category. Well, Lisa Kron's opus that also began life Off-Broadway, will be eligible for nomination in the Best Play category. And, Ring of Fire, which employs songs from the Johnny Cash catalog, will be eligible for nomination in the Best Musical category.
In the play categories, Rabbit Hole's Cynthia Nixon and John Slattery, Well's Lisa Kron and Festen's Larry Bryggman and Michael Hayden will be the only actors in their shows eligible in the Leading Actor/Actress in a Play categories. It was also decided that Barefoot in the Park's Jill Clayburgh and Tony Roberts will be eligible for nomination in the Best Featured Actress/Actor in a Play categories.
In the musical categories the only decision concerned Pajama Game's Michael McKean, who will be eligible for nomination in the Best Featured Actor in a Musical category.
All other decisions, according to a press statement, were consistent with the opening-night credits.
The Administration Committee previously met in January 2006 and September 2005. One additional meeting will be held after the May 10 cut-off date for Tony eligibility. Nominations will be announced May 16.
The 2006 Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS-TV on June 11.
