Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner will adapt Mimi Baird and Eve Claxton's memoir "He Wanted The Moon," according to Deadline.com.

A co-production between Cross Creek Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B, the motion picture may cast Pitt as Texas native and Harvard-educated Dr. Perry Baird.

The film, according to the industry website, spotlights the doctor, "who rose in the field of medicine in the 1920s. He focused on the biochemical root of manic depression at a time when there wasn’t much research on the condition. Unfortunately, he would fall victim to the condition that so fascinated him and by the time the results of his groundbreaking research were published, he had been institutionalized."

The film is told from daughter Mimi's point of view, "observing her father as he was in and out of institutions, lost his medical license, and ultimately was given a lobotomy that killed him."

Kushner last penned the script for the Steven Spielberg-directed "Lincoln." He won Tony Awards for both parts of Angels in America.

A timetable for the film has not been announced.
