Kate Levering, whose smile and feet earned her a 2001 Tony Award nomination in the new revival of 42nd Street, re-joins the company as Peggy Sawyer Aug. 30.

Levering rose to the challenge of the newly-created choreography for this production following her stint as Zeneeta in The Music Man. In Act Two of 42nd Street, she spins and dances on pianos, in a newly created sequence by choreographer Randy Skinner and director Mark Bramble.

Peggy Sawyer is the mythic showbiz kid who arrives in New York from Allentown, lands a job in a Broadway chorus and ends up replacing the aging star.

Levering left 42nd Street to star in Harry Connick Jr. and Susan Stroman's Thou Shalt Not in fall 2001. The musical was roundly dismissed, and disappeared. Meredith Patterson played Peggy after Levering departed a year ago.

42nd Street, at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, won the Best Musical Revival Tony Award in 2001. A national tour launched earlier this month. Levering was nommed in the part for a Best Featured Actress (Musical) Tony Award.
