Sally Mayes, a Tony nominee for her performance in the 1993 revival of She Loves Me, will star in the Cape May Stage production of Kim Powers’ new comedy Sidekicked, which will play the New Jersey venue beginning August 7.

Roy Steinberg, the artistic director of Cape May Stage, will helm the limited engagement, which continues through September 20.

Mayes, last on Broadway in 2005 in Steel Magnolias, will play TV star Vivian Vance, who was best known for her role as Ethel Mertz, Lucy Ricardo’s best friend, on the long-running I Love Lucy. Vance’s numerous Broadway credits included Music in the Air, Anything Goes, The Cradle Will Rock, and Skylark.

Sidekicked is set on the last night of filming I Love Lucy, where Vance has a lot to get off her chest. The production will also feature costumes by Tony winner Jess Goldstein.
