Tony-nominated actor Zachary Levi will lead New Line Cinemas’ new DC superhero film Shazam!, according to Deadline.

The actor, most famous for his title role on the television series Chuck, led the 2016 revival of the Joe Masteroff, Jerry Bock, and Sheldon Harnick classic She Loves Me at Roundabout Theatre Company. Now, the actor returns to the screen in the movie directed by David F. Sandberg.

This superhero legend concerns teenager Billy Batson, who can transform into an adult superhero by saying the name “Shazam!,” an acronym for ancient deities and historical wise men Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.

Peter Safran produces the adaptation by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.

Prior to starring as leading man Georg Nowack in She Loves Me, and earning both a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk nomination, Levi starred opposite Krysta Rodriguez in the Broadway musical First Date in 2013.

He recently appeared as Jules in the New York City Center production of Sunday in the Park With George, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford. Though the show transferred to Broadway, reopening the Hudson Theatre, Levi did not reprise his role in the official Main Stem revival.
