Kidman (The Blue Room, "The Hours," the upcoming Sweet Bird of Youth) will play war correspondent Gellhorn, and Owen ("Closer," "Children of Men") will portray author Hemingway in the film, which will depict the couple during and after the Spanish Civil War.
David Strathairn (Dance of Death, "Temple Grandin," "Good Night and Good Luck") will play Hemingway's friend and fellow author, John Dos Passos. Tony Shalhoub (Lend Me a Tenor, "Monk") is cast as Russian journalist Koltsov, and Parker Posey (Hurlyburly, Fifth of July, "Waiting for Guffman") is set for the role of Hemingway's fourth wife, Mary.
Hemingway's second wife, Pauline, will be played by Molly Parker ("Deadwood"). Rodrigo Santoro will play Dos Passos' friend Zarra, a Spanish Loyalist. Santiago Cabrera ("Heroes," Romeo and Juliet) will play war photographer Robert Capa. Saviero Guerra ("Becker") is cast as Hemingway's friend Sidney Franklin, Peter Coyote ("Brothers & Sisters") will play Hemingway's editor Maxwell Perkins, and Diane Baker ("Unscripted," "Marnie") will play Gellhorn's mother.
The project, directed by Phil Kaufman and executive-produced by James Gandolfini (God of Carnage, "The Sopranos"), will have its premiere next year.
