News Tony Winner Fishburne May Join Cast of CBS Hit "CSI" Tony Award winner Laurence Fishburne, currently on Broadway in Thurgood, may be the latest actor to join the CBS drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fishburne may succeed "CSI" lead William Petersen. The award-winning actor would create a new role as a scientist who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer. While CBS has not made any official announcement, sources close to the production claim Fishburne is being heavily courted for the role. Fishburne ends his Broadway run in Thurgood Aug. 17 at the Booth Theatre.

Fishburne earned a 2008 Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The actor previously earned Tony, Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards for his performance in Two Trains Running. Fishburne was nominated for an Academy Award for the film "What's Love Got to Do with It?" His screen credits also include "The Color Purple," "Apocalypse Now," "The Matrix" trilogy and "Mission: Impossible III."
