According to the New York Post, The River, starring Jackman in the role originated by Dominic West in the West End, will arrive on Broadway in early 2015 under the direction of Ian Rickson, who helmed the premiere.
"What you read in the NY Post is true," Jackman tweeted Jan. 17. "Not sure exactly when, but I'm really excited. A great team for The River... Can't wait to tread the boards again!!! #TheRiver#thegreatwhiteway"
The Royal Court and Sonia Friedman would produce.
The new play is set in a remote cabin on the cliffs on a moonless night. London press materials quoted the following line from the play: "At dawn I went back to the river, and I took off my clothes and dived in the freezing water. I searched and searched but it was gone. But when I surfaced, I was holding something. Something else."
Jackman is a Tony winner for The Boy From Oz and the recipient of a 2012 Special Tony Award.
