Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara will return to the Metropolitan Opera in a 2018 production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart‘s comic opera Così fan tutte.
The actor, who appeared at the neighboring Vivian Beaumont Theatre in South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza, and The King and I (Tony Award), will move a hundred yards downtown to the legendary Met opera stage, playing the saucy, plotting maid, Despina.
The production is scheduled to open March 15, 2018, and run through April 19.
O‘Hara made her Met debut with Susan Stroman’s production of The Merry Widow in 2014.
The 1790 Italian language comic opera with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte shows what happens when a cynical old man challenges two lovestruck younger men to see if their respective fiancées would stay faithful to them if put to the test. Christopher Maltman will play Don Alfonso, and the young lovers will be played by Amanda Majeski, Serena Malfi, Ben Bliss, and Adam Plachetka. David Robertson will conduct.
