The 32-page hardcover, which explores a mother/daughter relationship, features illustrations by Caldecott honoree Brian Pinkney. The book also comes with an audio CD of the original song "Be a Diva," written and performed by LaChanze. "Nena wants to be a Diva—with a capital D—just like her mommy, who's a star on Broadway," according to press notes. "She wants to sing and act and dance, but knows it will take lots of work—and lots of fun—for all her wishes to come true."

LaChanze won a Tony Award for her performance as Celie in The Color Purple. She has also appeared on Broadway in Once on This Island, Ragtime, Company and Uptown . . . It's Hot! and Off-Broadway in Inked Baby, Dessa Rose, The Vagina Monologues and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. LaChanze was also Tony-nominated for her work in Once on This Island.

The book, which is priced $16.99, is recommended for children ages 4-8.
