News Tony Winner Lea Salonga Will Receive Outstanding Filipino Americans' Heritage Award Tony Award winner Lea Salonga will receive the Heritage Award at the Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York Awards, held Oct. 29 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.

MiG Ayesa, who will host the 8 PM awards ceremony, T.V. Carpio and J. Elaine Marcos were also nominated for TOFA-NY's community-determined awards for their performances in the Broadway musicals Rock of Ages, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, respectively.

"New York has always been proud to be a city of promise and opportunity for people of every background, including generations of Filipino Americans," said New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in a statement. "We take this opportunity to honor the men and women who contribute to our city's amazing energy and spirit."

Also receiving the TOFA-NY's Heritage Award are dancers Craig and Samantha Abaya, who were junior champions on the seventh season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars"; philanthropist and community leader Loida Nicolas Lewis; organizations Filipino-American Human Services Inc. and Filipino-American National Historical Society; and weekly newspaper Filipino Reporter.

Salonga won the Tony Award in 1991 for her performance in Miss Saigon. She has also appeared on Broadway in Flower Drum Song and Les Miserables.

The TOFA-NY Awards were created to celebrate the second year of the Filipino American Heritage Month. Carnegie Hall is located at 881 Seventh Avenue. For more information, click here.
