News Tony Winner Lillias White to Star in Free Readings of Big Maybelle: Soul of the Blues Amas Musical Theatre in association with the Gilead Company will present free staged readings of Big Maybelle: Soul of the Blues next month at Pearl Studios in Manhattan.

Tony winner Lillias White, currently on Broadway in Fela!, will star in the readings, which are scheduled for Sept. 13 at 6 PM, Sept. 14 at 3 PM and Sept. 15 at 3 PM.

The new musical was written by Paul Levine, who will also direct the readings. Kenny Seymour is the musical director.

Big Maybelle, according to press notes, "is a one-woman show exploring the life and music of Maybelle Smith, the celebrated 50's era blues singer best known for her hit 'Candy.'"
