Playbill.com has learned that the former star of Broadway's Jersey Boys will play a retired wood shop teacher with an excellent singing voice. The new series from Ryan Murphy, creator of "Nip/Tuck," is scheduled to begin production shortly. An air date for the first episode has yet to be announced.
"GLEE," according to press notes, is an "inspiring one-hour musical comedy that follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to transform the school's Glee Club and inspire a group of ragtag performers to make it to the biggest competition of them all: Nationals."
John Lloyd Young received a Tony Award for his work as Frank Valli in the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys. For that performance he also won Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Theatre World awards. His other theatrical credits include The Drawer Boy as well as productions at the McCarter Theatre and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He also played Marius in the sold-out Hollywood Bowl presentation of Les Misérables in Concert.
