Slated for Dec. 9, the event will feature a performance from the award-winning star as well as dinner, cocktails and dancing at the transformed Joan and Irwin Jacobs Center.

"Having Patti LuPone perform for us is an incredible honor," said La Jolla artistic director Des McAnuff in a statement. "Our patrons are sure to find her a real treat — one more delightful part of our night of fantasy. Patti is, in my opinion, a national treasure.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bask in her light."

LuPone returned to New York last season for her first Broadway musical role in 17 years as Sweeney Todd's Mrs. Lovett. A Best Actress (in a Musical) Tony Award winner for her turn in Evita, LuPone was previously seen on Broadway in the 1988 revival of Anything Goes — for which she was Tony-nominated. The actress has remained in the spotlight with appearances in the New York Philharmonic's Candide concert, the City Center Encores! run of Cole Porter's Can-Can, as well as non-musical turns for Broadway’s Noises Off, The Old Neighborhood and Master Class. Her theatre concerts include Patti LuPone on Broadway and Matters of the Heart. LuPone was also recently seen in the Ravinia Festival's acclaimed staging of Gypsy.

Proceeds from the gala directly benefits the Playhouse's new play development and education programs.  The evening will start with 6 PM cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a 7:30 PM gourmet dinner designed by Wolfgang Puck Catering and an 8:30 PM live auction and musical performance.
