Adapted and directed by Emily Mann, the Chekhov classic will play the Princeton theatre April 29 through May 18. Opening night is scheduled for May 2. Chekhov’s Vanya concerns a retired professor who returns to his country home with a beautiful young wife; his return sets the stage for a face-off with his brother-in-law, Vanya. Joining Plummer and Skybell onstage will be Jonathan Hogan, William Biff McGuire, Natacha Roi, Isa Thomas and Georgine Hall. The creative team comprises Michael Yeargan (sets), Nancy Schertler (lighting), Myung Hee Cho (costume design) and Baikida Carroll (original music).
Amanda Plummer won the Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Theater World awards for her performance in Agnes of God. She also received Tony nominations for her performances in A Taste of Honey and Pygmalion. Also an Emmy Award winner, Plummer’s screen credits include “The World According to Garp,” “Daniel,” “Pulp Fiction” and “The Fisher King.” Steven Skybell’s Broadway credits include The Full Monty, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Café Crown and Ah, Wilderness! He won an Obie Award for his work in Antigone in New York and has also been seen on the London stage.
