Tony winner and Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo will appear in Faye Ward’s Country Music. The new film recently began shooting, according to Deadline.
The movie tells the story of a young girl who is fresh out of jail. Her raw talent inspires her to make it as a country singer in Nashville, however, she is stuck in Glasgow. When forced by her mother to get a job, she begins working for Okonedo's character as her cleaning lady.
The music-themed comedy also features West End alum Jessie Buckley, Olivier winner Julie Walters, and Broadway alum James Harkness; Tom Harper directs. Filming will take place in both Glasgow and Nashville.
Okonedo recently starred in the new West End production of Edward Albee’s 2002 Tony-winning play, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? She won a Tony Award for her performance in the 2014 Broadway revival of A Raisin In The Sun and was nominated for an Oscar for Hotel Rwanda.
