News Tony Winner Tonya Pinkins Will Appear in Goddess Hair and Nail Saloon at "Rooftop Reading Series" of New Work Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins will take part in the first annual "Red Shirt Rooftop Reading Series," featuring original new works by emerging playwrights, Aug. 3-5 at Red Shirt Entertainment's home in Manhattan.

Pinkins, who won a Tony Award for her performance in Jelly's Last Jam and is a Tony nominee for Caroline, Or Change and Play On!, will appear in Goddess Hair and Nail Saloon, one of the eight selected 10-minute plays in the series of new work. 

Anita Gillette (The Big Meal at Playwrights Horizons) and Joyce Cohen (John Ferguson at The Mint Theatre) will star in St. Augustine, FLA

Additionally, Spook, a one-act play inspired by Maya Angelou's poem "Willie," will be shown all three days. Written and directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, it will feature Kayla Aimable, Amelia Pedlow, Derric Harris (A Free Man of Color) and Jonas Goslow.

"Every artist involved with the festival is bringing something compelling to the table and we are delighted to offer them this opportunity," said Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, Red Shirt producing artistic director, in a statement.

Hands by Becca Schlossberg. Directed by James Harkness (Guys and Dolls).
Reconcile, Bitch by Desi Moreno-Penson. Directed by Jonathan Musser.
Goddess Hair and Nail Salon by Patricia Ione Lloyd. Directed by Elizabeth Ostler.
Apples and Corn by Joseph Yeargain. Directed by Alexis Williams.
