Performances of Preludes will begin May 23 and continue through July 19 at Lincoln Center's Claire Tow Theater. Official opening night is set for June 15.

From the creators of the acclaimed Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, the show is inspired by the music of Sergei Rachmaninov. The story follows the Russian composer's struggle to overcome writer's block following a disastrous first premiere. Played by Ebert, the young Rachmaninov begins daily sessions with a hypnotist.

The cast will also feature Eisa Davis (Passing Strange), Joseph Keckler (I am an Opera) and Chris Sarandon (Cyrano De Bergerac) as well as Or Matias on the piano, who returns to the team after collaborating on Great Comet of 1812.

The production will also have a set by Mimi Lien, costumes by Paloma Young, lights by Bradley King, sound by Matt Hubbs, musical direction by Matias and casting by Caparelliotis Casting/Henry Russell Bergstein.

Obie winner Malloy, who is currently starring in the acclaimed Ghost Quartet at the McKittrick Hotel, has previous shows that include Three Pianos, Beowulf - A Thousand Years of Baggage, All Hands, Beardo, The Sewers, Sandwich, Clown Bible and (The 99-cent) Miss Saigon. Fellow Obie winner Chavkin is artistic director at the Brooklyn-based ensemble The TEAM and has directed such Off-Broadway hits as Small Mouth Sounds, The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls and The Hatmaker’s Wife.
