Based on the filmmakers’ actual experience, "Breaking Upwards" follows "a young, New York couple who —fours years into their relationship and battling codependency — decide to intricately strategize their own break up." Navigating feelings and family, even with the strict rules they make for themselves, proves harder than they expect.
Wein ("The Hebrew Hammer") directs a screenplay he penned with Lister-Jones and Peter Duchan. The film — which was an official selection at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival — will open April 2 in New York and April 9 in Los Angeles.
Lister-Jones — seen in The Little Dog Laughed and The Marriage of Bette and Boo — leads a cast that features her Tony Award-winning Little Dog co-star Julie White as well as stage vets Peter Friedman, Olivia Thirlby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Pablo Schreiber and Tony winners Andrea Martin and LaChanze.
