Wilson Jermaine Heredia, a Tony winner for his portrayal of Angel, Rent's drag queen with a heart of gold, returns to the role on Broadway Aug. 6.

Heredia, coming off a stint at Williamstown in Quark Victory, made his Broadway debut in Rent, garnering a Drama Desk and an Obie award alongside the Best Featured Actor Tony. A Brooklynite, he appeared in New York in Popol Vuh at Lincoln Center Elizabeth Swados' The New Americans for which he composed the song "No Es Asi."

Heredia replaces Jose Llana, who leaves Rent for the role of the villain Guillame in Alain Boublil-Claude Michel Schonberg's Martin Guerre. Llana's New York credits include The King and I, Street Corner Symphany, Saturn Returns and the New York Shakespeare Festival's On the Town.

The current Broadway cast of Rent features Manley Pope (Roger), Jim Poulos (Mark), Michael McElroy (Tom Collins), Krysten Cummings (Mimi), Tamara Podemski (Maureen), Kenna J. Ramsey (Joanne) and Jacques Smith (Benny).
