Tony-nominated plays may enjoy more of the spotlight in this year’s awards ceremony. Tony producer Walter C. Miller has asked the authors of the four plays up for the top prize to write a 45-second synopsis of their work, according to an item in Variety. Each summation would be read by one the play’s leads. In the case of the one-man show Freak, that would mean that John Leguizamo would both write and recite the synopsis. Miller told Variety all four playwrights had agreed to cooperate.
Tonys spokesman Keith Sherman could not confirm the story. The Tonys will be presented on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall with Rosie O’Donnell as host.
