The jazz band is joined each week by a Broadway performer, who offers tunes from the Great American Songbook. The series will next welcome Curtains actress Darcie Roberts, who plays Roberta Wooster in the new musical at the Hirschfeld Theatre.
Among other stars scheduled to join Traina and his Quintet are Spamalot's Marin Mazzie, Hairspray's Michele Pawk, Curtains' Jason Danieley and Karen Ziemba and A Chorus Line's Michael Berresse. Two shows are offered each Tuesday night, beginning at 9:30 PM and ending at midnight.
Joe Traina, an accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist, leads the Joe Traina Quintet on "Tea for Two," his newest CD that was released in December 2006. The recording features a mix of Broadway show tunes and jazz standards. He is joined on the 12-track disc by Mike Karn (tenor saxophone), Tim Regusis (piano), Scott Neumann (drums) and Sean Smith (bass).
Darcie Roberts has been seen on Broadway in Curtains, Aida, Dream and Crazy for You. Her national tour credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (Helen Hayes nomination), Copacabana, Busker Alley, 42nd Street and Aspects of Love.
The Sardi's series is presented by Joe Cantor and Steve Garrin. There is no cover charge to attend the performances; however, there is a $35 food and drink minimum. For reservations or further information, call (212) 221-8440.
Sardi's Restaurant is located in Manhattan at 244 West 44th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue.
