Folks wishing to go to An Evening with John Doyle, a 7 PM June 5 event presented by The Transport Group can rest their minds: no musical skills are required to attend the occasion, which will take place at the Soho Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street (between Varick Street and Sixth Avenue); just $30 for general admission and $75 for VIP seating and a private reception with the panelists after the show. Doyle, of course, is the director whose recent American productions of Sweeney Todd and Company saw their casts doubling as the orchestra. Doyle was nominated for a Tony Award on May 16 for his work on the former. Company will arrive on Broadway this fall.
Transport Group co-artistic director Jack Cummings III will interview Doyle, as well as Sweeney Todd star Manoel Felciano; Raul Esparza, who stars as Bobby in Company; and Mary-Mitchell Campbell, who serves as orchestrator for Company. The evening will conclude with a question and answer period with the audience and four panelists, and will be filmed for the Lincoln Center Theatre on Film and Tape Archives.
