News Transport Group to Present Cariani's Cul-de-sac The Transport Group will present actor-playwright John Cariani's new work Cul-de-sac in spring 2005, the author told Playbill.com.

The play deals with the suburban residents of the titular vehicular dead end.

Cariani, currently appearing in Two Gentlemen of Verona in Central Park, won a Tony nomination for playing Motel the Tailor in Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof. His Down East-set play Almost, Maine has been promised for Off-Broadway for some time, and may reach the stage this season.

Almost, Maine got its premiere at Portland Stage Company in Maine Oct. 26-Nov. 21, 2004.

Set in the potato country of northern Maine, the show consists of "quirky little love vignettes," according to PSC show materials.

Maine was workshopped at the Cape Cod Theatre Project in the summer of 2002. At that time, it was called Basketville, Maine. Gabriel Barre was the director. The Transport Group has presented such Off-Broadway musicals as First Lady Suite and The Audience, and will produce the new musical Normal at the Connelly Theatre this fall.
