Transport Group has announced two productions for its 2019–2020 season, which will open with the world-premiere musical Broadbend, Arkansas, running October 25–November 23 at The Duke on 42nd Street.

Featuring a libretto by Ellen Fitzhugh and Harrison David Rivers, and music and additional lyrics by Ted Shen, the musical traces three generations of an African American family as they grapple with inequality, violence, and suppression in the South. Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III will direct the production that is presented in association with The Public Theater.

The reworked version of Meredith Willson’s The Unsinkable Molly Brown, seen regionally at the Denver Center Theatre Company and the St. Louis Muny, will receive its New York premiere February 7–March 22 at Abrons Arts Center.

Fun Home Tony Award nominee Beth Malone, who has been attached to the production since its 2014 Denver debut, will reprise her performance in the title role. Tony winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes) directs and choreographs the adaptation that features a new book and additional lyrics by Tony Award nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie).

Willson’s score for the 1960 musical about the outspoken American socialite who survived the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, has been adapted by Michael Rafter, and includes additional, unheard material from composer-lyricist’s catalog.
