Alex Lippard will direct the production, which also stars Adam Green. Set design is by Michael V. Moore and lighting design is by Lucas Krech. The play is presented by Les Gutman and Elizabeth Cockrell in association with Friendly Fire.
According to press notes, "Travanti stars as Henry Grunwald, a Viennese Jew who fled the Nazis and became a successful advertising executive in New York. Now retired and determined to fulfill his dream of becoming a playwright, Henry engages the assistance of a young, opinionated NYU student who shares his passion for writing and headstrong spirit in this new play about friendship, loyalty, dreams and, ultimately, coming to terms with the past–and present."
Travanti's theatre credits include Old Wicked Songs and All My Sons at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, A Touch of the Poet at American Repertory Theatre, Arena Stage and Denver Theatre Center, The Guys in Chicago, The Aspern Papers and Les Liaisons Dangereuses in London, Rhinoceros and Only Kidding at the Cleveland Playhouse and a touring production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? as Nick opposite Colleen Dewhurst.
Travanti starred on "General Hospital" and has guest-starred in numerous television shows, most recently playing President Richard Mills in "Prison Break."
Safdie previously wrote Private Jokes, Public Places, which went up Off-Broadway in 2003. He has also written the film "You Can Thank Me Later," starring Ellen Burstyn, and the plays Jesus & Jews, Fiddler Sub-Terrain, Hyper-Allergenic, Broken Places, Laughing Dogs and La Compagnie, which has been developed as a pilot for CBS/Castle Rock. Green's stage credits include All This Intimacy at Second Stage Theatre Uptown, The Mines of Sulphur at New York City Opera, Awake and Sing at Arena Stage, The Chosen at Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter at the Alliance Theatre and Bone Portraits at Soho Rep.
Lippard directed Sake with the Haiku Geisha at the Perry Street Theatre, Cupid and Psyche at Altered Stages, The Gold Standard at Irish Arts Center and multiple shows for Friendly Fire, of which he is the artistic director.
