While Marivaux's Triumph of Love will receive a musical treatment on Broadway this season, Paris will remain conventional and will offer a more regular staging of the play.
The Triumph of Love, opening April, 16, 1998, as part of the Odeon-Theatre de l'Europe's season, will be directed by Roger Planchon who will also star in the play.
Roger Planchon was one of the pioneers of the regional theater. Director of the TNP-Villeurbanne since 1957, playwright, film director and actor, Planchon is now a major name in French theater.
Joining Planchon in the cast will be Isabelle Gelinas, Claire Borotra, Nathalie Krebs, Micha Lescot, Alain Payen and Regis Royer. The set will be designed by Thierry Leproust, costumes by Jacques Schmidt and Emmanuel Peduzzi and lighting by Andre Diot.
Another Marivaux play, Les Fausses Confidences directed by Jean-Pierre Miquel, will be reprised at the Comedie Francaise from Sept. 7. For ticket and information on Le Triomphe de l'Amour at the Odeon-Theatre de l'Europe, call 331 44 41 36 36. Runs April 1-26.
