News Tsidii Le Loka to Offer To the Rising Sun in Tribeca May 1-2 Tony Award nominee Tsidii Le Loka will perform her solo evening of song, To the Rising Sun, at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center in May.

Known for her Tony-nominated performance as Rafiki in the original Broadway cast of The Lion King, Loka has created the concert evening that features the music of Nina Simone, Mariam Makeba and Odetta Holmes. To the Rising Sun will be presented on May 1 and 2 at 8 PM. "These women were all activists and used their music as a platform to speak out during the civil rights movement and the apartheid struggle. The music allows us to revisit the message of the human potential for love, understanding, and a sense of hope," Loka said in a statement.

In addition to her work in The Lion King, for which she earned a Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award, Tsidii Le Loka has performed in Riverdance: On Broadway and began her career as part of the South African trio SHADII. She has appeared on television in "Rose Red," "Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" and "Law and Order."
