Symphony Space artistic director Isaiah Sheffer will host the 8 PM event, which will also feature actor-director John Turturro and actress Dana Ivey as guest readers. Shanley, according to press notes, will "introduce three short stories by Ernest Hemingway and Haruki Murakami that ignite his imagination."
John Patrick Shanley's many plays include Defiance, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Where's My Money, Cellini, Dirty Story, Beggars in the House of Plenty and Four Dogs and a Bone. He won the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Doubt, which continues to tour the country. Shanley was also named the Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at The New School for Drama.
Dana Ivey was seen on Broadway earlier this season in Butley. The veteran stage actress was Tony-nominated for her performances in Heartbreak House, Sunday in the Park with George, The Last Night of Ballyhoo and The Rivals. She won Drama Desk awards for her work in Ballyhoo and Sex and Longing.
Stage and screen star John Turturro directed the recent Off-Broadway play A Spanish Play starring Zoe Caldwell. His many New York stage acting credits include Life (x) 3, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Italian-American Reconciliation, La Puta Vida, The Bald Soprano, Steel on Steel, Men Without Dates, Chaos and Hard Times and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Turturro won Obie and Theatre World awards for his work in the latter.
