The epic musical Les Misérables has been added to the season schedule and will run March 24-April 4, 2009. The Boubil and Schonberg musical replaces the previously announced resident production of Meet Me in St. Louis, which will be rescheduled for another season.
"Les Miserables is one of the finest modern musicals and is a show our patrons have requested many, many times," said TUTS president and CEO John C. Breckenridge in a statement. "We're thrilled to have this opportunity. In order to lock in Les Misérables we needed to reposition another show."
TUTS' youth conservatory, The Apprentice Conservatory Training, will present the world premiere stage adaptation of Stephen Schwartz' Geppetto and Sons, Sept. 11-13.
TUTS associate director Roy Hamlin directs the work that combines the characters and familiar songs from Disney's "Pinnochio" with the made-for-television film "Geppetto," which featured new songs by composer Stephen Schwartz. Emmy nominee David I. Stern penned the book for the musical that will feature choreography by Shay Rodgers.
Following the Houston premiere, Geppetto and Sons will be available for licensing from Music Theatre International. Tickets for the 2008-2009 TUTS season are available by calling (888) 558-3882 or by visiting www.TUTS.org.
