News TUTS Underground Inaugural Season Will Feature Lizzie, 50 Shades! and Hands on a Hardbody Theatre Under the Stars, Houston's largest nonprofit musical theatre company, has announced its new program, TUTS Underground, which will deliver new musicals to a new generation of theatregoers.

The four-show season featuring a series of contemporary shows targeted towards a modern audience will include Lizzie, 50 Shades! and Hands on a Hardbody. The fourth title will be announced at a later date.

Performances will be held in Zilkha Hall, a 500-seat theatre located in Hobby Center.

"TUTS Underground has been a dream of the organization's for a long time, and we are thrilled to finally make it a reality. Through our strong New York City connections, we are granted unparalleled access to the freshest, most innovative musicals coming out of the Broadway community. As a multi-million dollar musical theatre organization, we have the unique opportunity to take new material from obscurity to notoriety right here in Houston. That is pretty exciting," said John Breckenridge, TUTS' CEO and president, in a statement.

Lizzie is based on the notoriously acquitted accused murderer Lizzie Borden. 50 Shades! spoofs the popular book series "50 Shades of Grey," and Hands on a Hardbody, inspired by the 1997 documentary of the same name, is about a group of Texans competing for a pickup truck.

"I want to bring important theatre to Houston — shows that make people think and view the world around them differently and from a new and exciting angle. TUTS Underground will showcase just how dynamic musical theatre can be," Bruce Lumpkin, TUTS' artistic director, said in a statement. More information can be found at TUTSUnderground.com
