News Two-Act Version of David Rabe’s Hurlyburly to Play The Chain Theatre; Casting Announced Variations Theatre Group will present a revival of David Rabe’s Hurlyburly beginning Feb. 14 at The Chain Theatre.

The upcoming production, which will officially open Feb. 19, will utilize the two-act script that Rabe prepared for the 2005 Off-Broadway revival starring Ethan Hawke and Bobby Cannavale. (The original three-act staging, seen in 1984, was directed by Mike Nichols.)

Under the direction of Rich Ferraioli, the cast will feature Deven Anderson, Jacklyn Collier, Rachel Cora, Kirk Gostkowski, Chris Harcum, Brandon Scott Hughes and Christina Elise Perry.

Set in the cocaine-and-sex-infused Hollywood Hills of the mid-1980s, Hurlyburly, according to press notes, is a "chilling comedy focusing on four men caught in a world of parties, backbiting, lies, and self-obsession in the decade of decadence. But a string of encounters with destiny convinces one of them to dig beneath the surface to discover his soul."

Rabe’s other plays include Streamers, Sticks and Bones (Tony Award, Best Play), The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Boom Boom Room.

Performances will be offered Tuesday-Saturday at 7 PM with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM. The production continues through March 1. Tickets are $18 and are available through www.VariationsTheatreGroup.com or by calling (866) 811-4111. The Chain Theatre is located at 21-28 45th Road in Long Island City, just ten minutes from Times Square via the 7, E, G, and M trains to Court Square Station.
