News   Two-CD Faust Reissue Features 20 Newman Demos

A deluxe CD reissue of Randy Newman's Faust is now in stores.

The reissue — available on the Rhino label — features Newman's complete 1995 musical update on Goethe's morality play as well as a second disc boasting 20 of Neman's rare project demos, including several songs cut from Faust. The demos feature Newman solo on piano and vocals.

The Faust recording features performances by a host of pop stars, including Elton John, James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt. The musical has seen several incarnations at such venues as La Jolla Playhouse, in 1995, and the Goodman Theatre, in 1996. Michael Greif directed both productions.
