News   Two Phillips Girls Join Cast of L.A. Vagina Monologues, Aug. 21-Sept. 9 In what may be a casting first for Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues—which boasts long-running engagements in New York City and Beverly Hills, and has also played Chicago and San Francisco among other burgs — Mackenzie Phillips and her stepmom Michelle Phillips will join the cast of the California production, Aug. 21-Sept. 9. The Phillips girls may be the first family relations (albeit not blood) to play together in the dramatic exploration of the female body.

In what may be a casting first for Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues—which boasts long-running engagements in New York City and Beverly Hills, and has also played Chicago and San Francisco among other burgs — Mackenzie Phillips and her stepmom Michelle Phillips will join the cast of the California production, Aug. 21-Sept. 9. The Phillips girls may be the first family relations (albeit not blood) to play together in the dramatic exploration of the female body.

Michelle Phillips was married to the late musician John Phillips and both were members of the '60s vocal group The Mamas and the Papas. Mackenzie Phillips is John's daughter by another marriage and is best known from the '70s television series "One Day at a Time." Michelle's full daughter is Chynna Phillips, of the group Wilson Phillips.

Coming between stepmom and stepdaughter will be comedienne Ellen Cleghorne.

The previous cast of the L.A. Monologues comprises Susan Anton, Lonette McKee and Melody Thomas Scott.

Penned by Eve Ensler and originally presented as a monologue by the author, The Vagina Monologues ranges in vignettes from comic (various names for that part of the anatomy) to tragic (Balkan rape victims). For more information on The Vagina Monologues in L.A., call (310) 859-2830.
