LOS ANGELES -- Lee Blessing's political drama Two Rooms, which was seen last fall at the Actor's Lab, is transferring to the Sanford Meisner Center. Sarah Knight directs Amy Henry, Daniel Hutchison, Wylie Small and Christopher Warren in the run, which opens March 17 and closes April 22. Jo Films and the Center are the co-producers.The L.A. Weekly called Two Rooms "a carefully crafted, unsentimental production," noting that "Henry's deeply brooding portrayal...resonates with particular piquancy."
In Two Rooms, an American professor in Beirut has been held captive for more than a year, bound and blindfolded by Shiite Muslims, while his embittered wife has grown weary of petitioning official channels for his release. She copes by transforming her husband's study into a cell much like the one in which he is imprisoned, isolating herself in communion with him, attempting to share his pain.
Blessing's other plays include Eleemosynary, Independence, Nice People and A Walk in the Woods. The Signature Theatre in New York recently dedicated an entire season to his work.
Sanford Meisner Center for the Arts is located at 5124 Lankershim Blvd. in NoHo. For tickets and information call (800) 509-9651.
