This streamlined, 80-minute version of the two-act dance musical Come Fly Away began performances Dec. 11, 2010, in Las Vegas with much of the original Broadway cast intact. Tickets were originally on sale through Jan. 29, but strong ticket sales prompted the two-month extension.
Tharp earned a Tony Award nomination for her choreography on Come Fly Away and has re-imagined the production as an intermissionless work specifically for Las Vegas audiences.
Sinatra Dance With Me, conceived, choreographed and directed by Tharp, also features a 17-piece live band accompanying the original masters of Sinatra's hits. The show includes original arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones, as well as newly created arrangements for the production.
The Las Vegas production features original Broadway cast members Karine Plantadit, Keith Roberts, John Selya, Laurie Kanyok, Laura Mead, Charlie Neshyba-Hodges, Marielys Molina, Matthew Stockwell Dibble, Todd Burnsed, Meredith Miles, Mark Myars, Justin Peck, Carolyn Doherty, Amanda Edge, Cody Green and Ronny Todorowski.
Fresh to the cast are Kyle DesChamps, Michelle Camaya and Candy Olsen. Sinatra Dance With Me includes the same Broadway creative team as Come Fly Away and also follows the tale of four couples falling in and out of love in a smokey, music-filled nightclub.
The Wynn production features designs by set designer James Youmans, lighting designer Donald Holder, costume designer Katherine Rothand and sound designer Peter McBoyle.
As on Broadway, the four couples who flirt, fight and fall in love throughout the evening are played by Mead, Neshyba-Hodges, Selya, Plantadit, Molina, Roberts, Dibble and Kanyok.
Come Fly Away debuted on Broadway in March 2010, where it ran for 213 performances through Sept. 5. A national tour, which is separate from the Las Vegas incarnation, will launch in May 2011 in Chicago.
Tickets are $69 and $89. Performances run Monday-Saturday at 7:30 PM in the Encore Theatre. Visit WynnLasVegas, or phone (888) 320-7110.
