In Bye Bye Birdie, Birdie is the Elvis-esque rock-and-roll singer who gets called up to enter the army. His handler, Albert Peterson, decides that one last publicity stunt before the young man goes will guarantee stardom forever. His plan: to have Birdie bestow one last kiss on an adoring fan before he ships out. That lucky fan lives in the tiny town of Sweet Apple, Ohio, where all chaos breaks loose with Birdie's arrival. The Charles Strouse and Lee Adams score includes "One Boy," "Hymn for a Sunday Evening," "The Telephone Hour," "Put on a Happy Face" and "How Lovely to Be a Woman."

Bob Walton stars as Albert Peterson. Walton performed on Broadway in Show Boat and toured the country with City of Angels and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. As Birdie, Vincent D'Elia comes to Casa Manana from Houston's Evita.

Designing Birdie are David Yates (sets), Jay Isham (lighting), Patty Geer McGarity (costumes) and Jay Jones (sound).

Tickets are $34-$18. Casa Manana is located at the corner of West Lancaster and University. For reservations, call (817) 467-ARTS or (214) 631-ARTS. Casa Manana is on the web at http://www.casamanana.org. -- By Christine Ehren
