Tyler Perry's Madea on the Run Hides Out in NYC Tonight | Playbill

News Tyler Perry's Madea on the Run Hides Out in NYC Tonight Tyler Perry's Madea on the Run kicks off a 10-week national tour with a Sept. 3-6 engagement at the Beacon Theatre Off-Broadway. Director, actor and producer Perry stars in the production (in drag as Madea), which also features new music written by him.

Perry is best-known for both creating and performing the Madea character, which he has developed in a series of his award-winning plays and films.

The latest play follows brash matriarch Mabel Simons, infamously known as Madea, who is on the run from the law. She uses the home of her long-time friend Bam, who is recovering from hip surgery, as a hide-out from the police. While she is using the notion of nursing him as a cover-up, her presence may turn out to be just what the doctor ordered.

"Madea’s life lessons on friendship, marriage, personal reflection, and overcoming, leave audiences with some great food for the soul," states a description on the show's website.
