Perry is best-known for both creating and performing the Madea character, which he has developed in a series of his award-winning plays and films.
The latest play follows brash matriarch Mabel Simons, infamously known as Madea, who is on the run from the law. She uses the home of her long-time friend Bam, who is recovering from hip surgery, as a hide-out from the police. While she is using the notion of nursing him as a cover-up, her presence may turn out to be just what the doctor ordered.
"Madea’s life lessons on friendship, marriage, personal reflection, and overcoming, leave audiences with some great food for the soul," states a description on the show's website.
The cast of Madea on the Run also features Cassi Davis, Tony Hightower, Maurice Lauchner, Rhonda Davis, David Stewart, Jr., Latoya London, Claudette Ortiz, Judith Franklin and Dorsey Levens. For more information visit TylerPerry.
The tour will continue with engagements in Albany, NY; Hartford, CT; Syracuse, NY; Atlanta; Los Angeles, Washington DC and Oakland, CA. The tour will conclude with a return to New York Nov. 22 when it plays the King's Theatre in Brooklyn.
