News UK Joe Egg Goes to Television

Peter Nichols' play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg has just finished its run at the Comedy Theatre, but will be filmed - with Eddie Izzard in the role of Bri that he took over from Clive Owen - for the digital television channel, BBC4.

The play, which describes the dilemmas faced by a youngish couple with a disabled daughter, and manages to mix outrageous comedy with pathos, was inspired by Nichols' own family situation - he and his wife had a severely disabled child who died young.

A Day in the Death of Joe Egg will be broadcast on BBC4 at 9 PM on March 13.
