News U.K.'s National Theatre Marks 50th Anniversary with Gala Performance Nov. 2, Broadcast Live on BBC2 to Cinemas Internationally The U.K.'s National Theatre's current 50th anniversary celebrations culminate Nov. 2 with a gala performance that will be broadcast live on BBC2 to cinemas internationally as part of NT Live.

The performance, National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage, features live performances and archival footage from actors who've appeared on the National's stages in the last five decades.

Nicholas Hytner directs a company that includes James Corden, Dominic Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Simon Russell Beale, Frances de la Tour, Ralph Fiennes, Derek Jacobi, Alex Jennings, Rory Kinnear, Adrian Lester, Anna Maxwell Martin, Andrew Scott, Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton.

The evening comprises extracts from 50 years of iconic National Theatre performances.

To mark its 50th anniversary, the National Theatre has released an extensive collection of content from a selection of 50 seminal productions in a new iPad app "50 Years of the National Theatre" available for free download in the app store. Featuring exclusive content from the National Theatre’s archive, the app charts the history of the National Theatre through its stage productions from The Recruiting Officer in 1963 through to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and The Effect in 2012.
