The acclaimed West End revival of Edward Albee's Pulitzer-Prize winning play, A Delicate Balance, has announced it will extend its run through March 21.
The production, which is playing to capacity audiences at the Haymarket Theatre, was originally set to close in January. The cast features Dame Maggie Smith, Eileen Atkins and John Standing, and received the highest critical praise when it opened in October, with The Independent lauding "Anthony Page's wonderful staging" and The Daily Mail raving about "the absolutely fabulous" performances delivered by Atkins and Smith. In addition, Atkins was honored with the 1997 London Evening Standard Best Actress Award Nov. 28.
The 1996 Broadway revival of the play, starring Rosemary Harris, Elaine Stritch, and George Grizzard, won the Tony Award for Best Revival.
The original 1966 production starred Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn, and the subsequent 1973 film starred Katharine Hepburn, Paul Scofield and Lee Remick.
